1. Get a better ISP. No, seriously. And believe me you - if I connect directly to any EU server, my lag is like 20000ms (yes, twenty thousand milliseconds), so I need to use service like SmoothPing to get it down to 250ms-600ms. But the core issue lies within my ISP, as I constantly get connection resets when opening up websites. But the (locally) cheap price keeps me to it, as when it works great, it is great.
2. If you get low FPS, either lower your graphical settings or buy a new computer. Running on kinda lowish settings on 2009 Macbook I get 60 FPS when questing, and 30 FPS in crowded Stormwind.
3. You have (powerful) CPU and memory to be used. And complaining that WoW uses half a gig of memory when e.g., Firefox uses 1.5 GB with some mere 40 tabs open is not IMO a problem. And you should buy couple gigs more: doesn't really cost anything, but makes your computer run smoother.
4. Ganking sucks, true, but if your 'solution' for this is no make an online game an offline game, I'd rather die every now and then.
Plus as you stated, idea like this would just be used by botters. Heck, everyone would be using bots if you wouldn't get caught for it no matter what.

Ofcourse you can chose not to use those solutions,
like chosing to play on a PVP server but in that case
playing WOW offline is not really the solution to your problem.
It is more like going in a solo play only version because
you don't want the enemy players to attack you while flagged,
which is not how things work, ofcourse.

I dreamt of doing instances alone and being able to do raids alone (as in scenarios).
Then both WoW and me growd up (hey, I was just bit over twenty years when WoW did come) and I started to realize why this would be bad.
Just a couple reasons out of hundreds:
- Monthly fees would be harder to implement to game which you can play offline (not impossible nor even hard but harder than now (basically you would have to log in to server before you start playing single player game atleast every now and then))
- Single player game would be easy to pirate, of course even now there is servers for WoW and good guides how to set up one but this is nothing compared to what would happen if there would be single player option.
- WoW is mmorpg, doing multiplayer content alone kinda negates everything
- All content would have to be made several times. As in single player mode, harder single player mode and all of the options we have now.
As I said these are just couple of reasons.

But that's highly illogical. An offline, singpleplayer RPG is completely different from an MMOG. Saying 'it won't happen' and 'it's impossible' are the most constructive comments in this thread.
Also I sympathise with you about the internet problems. I have no choice but to use O2 mobile 'broadband' since I'm out in the country, and it sucks so hard sometimes.
Keep in mind that due to client/server trust issues, you can NOT progress you character in single player mode. You could farm mobs, complete quests gather minerals... but you wouldn't be allowed to keep the rewards when going back online.

It's technically impossible to do this in a secure manner. In any proper MMO (WoW included), every calculation is handled serverside. When you loot an item, you send the server a message that you intend to loot the item. The server confirms that the item actually exists on the corpse being looted, adds it to your inventory, and send a message to your client that this item now belongs to you.
A client cannot be trusted to tell the server 'Hey, I've gotten every epic BoE drop since I was last online'. Ever. No matter how clever Blizzard are in trying to prevent this, some hacker will be even more clever in finding a way to reverse-engineer and circumvent.
It's an absolutely rubbish idea. I can understand the 'but I want to play NOW!' feeling, but WoW as it is, but without MMO, would rank among the worst games in history.
