  You may instruct Origin to install games on any drive (within Application Settings).
  As you may see I did exactly that because I don't want to see games installed on my SSD ever!
  So I set in Origin to install games in a folder 'origin games' on my HDD in the partition I've decided to use only for games:
  This will work also for external drives, of course. But there is a catch.
  You have to make sure your external drive will have the correct letter assigned when you plug it in.
  An example?
  You set in Origin that your games are to be installed on drive T:, and then you install, dunno... Peggle. All right, all right. Not Peggle, god forbid. You install Mass Effect 3.
  Because you have work to do and can't play games, you've unplugged the drive and months passed. Finally you get some free time to play games.
  You plugged the drive back but plum, windows set another letter on it and now it's marked as F: instead of T:
  HORRORS!!!
  No biggie. Rightclick on (My) Computer, manage, disk management.
  Rightclick on the F: drive, then choose 'change drive letter' and... Change it to T. Like it's shown on the pic:
  Or... Just instruct inside Origin that now games are installed on drive F:
  Whichever is easier for you.

  I think you are quite mistaken on what '8gb memory' means (considering you don't know what a video card is - and I'm not trying to be rude.)
  8GB 'memory' refers to RAM, or Random Access Memory, which is memory where your computer keeps things and programs while you have them open and are working on things.
  Your computers actual storage space, the hard drive where data is actually saved, is bound to be significantly more than that, as assuming your laptop has Windows (since there is no Mac version of the game yet) because the average Windows installation is 15-20GB. The average hard drive for a computer now days is between at least 500GB and 1TB.
  Also, a video card is the part of your computer that processes what you see. They come in many different kinds, and some are better than others. For simple things, like browsing the internet, almost any video card will work, as it's just displaying words and pictures. For 'advanced' things like 3D games, such as TS4, that have a very in-depth rendering process when compared to 2D, you need a higher quality video card to keep up. A low quality video card will result in the game performing very poorly, being slow and laggy. They are also prone to damage from overuse when you demand more than what they are capable of, so you may want to be careful.
  As to your original question, though, as already explained, yes, you can certainly install the game (and almost anything else) to an external hard drive. :)

• If you install the game on another disc than C: it will still use C:DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims4 to store saved games, Downloads ect.
  You only save about 9 GB of disc space by installing on another disc.
• In this case I think the OP is getting mixed up, 8GB meaning the memory not space, just like Nearia35 said.
  But if installing onto another drive.. it is possible to move the Documents folder also.

• DO NOT move the documents folder. That folder is used by other programs. You could create a symbolic link but if you disconnect the external drive this could create problems. The user document folder is usually hard coded and expected to be where Windows originally put it. Unless you really know about the working of the Windows operating system I advise you to leave it alone or you could corrupt the operating system.

  Yes it will work, just make sure you place it in the correct folder. Place the entire BF1 folder in your Origin games folder directory. Then when you go to download from game from your PC it should detect the files. Also I would recommend doing a repair game after just to make sure all the files are there.

  Yes it will work.
  Install origin at your daughter, go to options and select game folder on your external hdd.
  Download the game.
  Take it to your home pc, copy the files over to where you want em. (recommend a ssd if you got the room)
  Start origin and point the game folder to where you copied the files. Origin will check the files and you are good to go.
  Origin is a bit more tricky than steam, where you can not select multiply folders and drives. So you have to do this before you install new game if you want it on a another drive/partition/folder.

  I downloaded this on an external hard drive, moved those files to my harddrive but can't figure out how to install it.
  When I try to launch from desktop it wants to try and re download it.
  Can't figure out how to get the game to install?

  Never mind just had to try Andy re download it , then it installed it instead.
  

• Its an SSD, or solid state drive and only has 128Gb of room in total. I have about 10-20Gb left and I cannot afford to take Mass Effect 3 onto it. I have a external drive I store steam games onto. Isn't there any way to move an Origin game over to it. Or change the download location so it puts it on my external.

• Cannot download games, DLC or updates to external hard drive when in Instant On mode. It seems that when I set the Power and Startup set to 'Instant On', and the setting 'When Xbox is off turn off storage', is unchecked, and I'm using the external hard drive at the main download hard drive.
• Trouble is, my laptop only has 2 GB left of storage. So i went and bought a 500GB external hard drive. Origin won't let me download it onto the hard drive.
• Origin games installation location help. Joined: Apr 10, 2003. A month ago I got this crazy idea that I would drag and drop my Origin Games folder onto another hard drive because the 500Gb drive I was using was getting full. The previous boot drive I was using had gone to hard drive heaven (2TB Hitachi) so I was forced to use the old 500Gb.
